IMPORTANT NOTICE. A MIX OF SIGHTSEEING AND HIKING TRIP. This is meant to be a "free and easy" budget trip. Participants should be relatively fit, with a good sense of humour, and above all, have the right attitude for close travel with others through possibly some trying times. Most definitely, this is not a trip for prudes, whiners, fuss-pots, and other similiarly assorted types! Although every effort will be made to stick to the given itinerary, ground conditions may change and cause some disruption and/or deviation from the norm. Otherwise, have fun!
DAY 1 Friday (Sept 5) Kuala Lumpur → Leh via transit in Delhi We gather at KLIA T2 at 05:05 in the morning for our Air India flight to Leh with 20h55m transit in Delhi, KUL-DEL (0805-1105). We arrive at New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) Terminal 3 at 11:05. Explore Delhi during the transit hours. Overnight in Delhi
DAY 2 Saturday (Sept 6) Delhi → Leh Early morning transfer to airport for our flight DEL-IXL (0800-0905). Upon arrival at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, we are picked up and transferred to the hotel for check-in. Today is reserved for acclimatization due to the high altitude (3,500m). We rest and hydrate, easing into the Ladakhi air. Overnight in Leh (D)
DAY 3 – Sunday (Sept 7) Leh Monastery Tour We explore cultural and spiritual highlights around Leh. Our first stop is Shey Palace, the former summer capital of Ladakh, followed by Thiksey Monastery, a 12-story complex with beautiful artwork. We then visit the grand Hemis Monastery, the richest and largest in the region. In the evening, we enjoy panoramic sunset views from Shanti Stupa. Overnight in Leh (B,D)
DAY 4 – Monday (Sept 8) Leh → Nubra Valley via Khardung La (159km,5-6hours) Today we embark on a scenic drive over Khardung La Pass (5,359m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Along the way, we visit the ancient Diskit Monastery and its massive Buddha statue. In Hunder, we enjoy a camel ride on the unique sand dunes. Overnight in Hunder, Nubra Valley (B,D)
DAY 5 – Tuesday (Sept 9) Turtuk Excursion (165km,4 hours) We take a full-day excursion to Turtuk, a picturesque village near the Pakistan border. Once part of Baltistan, Turtuk was incorporated into India in 1971 and offers a unique blend of Balti culture and history. We explore its winding alleys and traditional homes before returning to Hunder for the night.Overnight in Hunder, Nubra Valley (B,D)
DAY 6 – Wednesday (Sept 10) Nubra → Pangong via Shyok Valley (274km, 7 hours) We follow the adventurous Shyok Valley route, winding along river gorges to reach the iconic Pangong Lake (4,350m). The lake’s turquoise hues and mountain backdrop are a highlight of any Ladakh trip. We spend the evening soaking in the views and stay overnight in a lakeside camp or guesthouse. Overnight in Pangong Lake (B,D)
DAY 7 – Thursday (Sept 11) Pangong → Leh via Chang La Pass (225km,5-6 hours) After sunrise at the lake, we return to Leh via Chang La Pass (5,360m). We pause for tea and photos at the high-altitude pass, then continue to Leh. Afternoon free and easy. Overnight in Leh (B,D)
DAY 8 – Friday (Sept 12) Trek Begins – Likir to Yangthang After breakfast, we drive to Likir Monastery (3,650m) to begin our trek. Our route to Yangthang village (3,800m) offers a gentle start, crossing small passes and streams. We trek 4–5 hours with a gradual elevation gain. We stay overnight in a local guesthouse, experiencing Ladakhi hospitality Overnight Yangthang (B,D)
DAY 9 – Saturday (Sept 13) Yangthang to Hemis Shukpachan Today we trek over Tsermangchan La Pass to the charming village of Hemis Shukpachan (4,000m). The trail is scenic and peaceful, with prayer flags fluttering in the mountain breeze. We walk for around 3–4 hours, with a moderate elevation gain. Overnight in a guesthouse, Hemis Shukpachan (B,D)
DAY 10 – Sunday (Sept 14) Hemis Shukpachan to Temisgam We trek to 4-5 hours to Temisgam village and involves a descent to 3,700m. After reaching Temisgam, we explore its ancient palace and monastery. Overnight in Temisgam (B,D)
DAY 11 – Mon(Sept 15) Temisgam → Lamayuru → Leh (150km, 3hours) We drive to Lamayuru Monastery, known for its dramatic 'Moonland' terrain. After exploring the monastery, we return to Leh, winding through scenic mountain roads. Free and easy evening. Overnight stay in Leh (B,D)
DAY 12 – Tuesday (Sept 16) Leh → Kuala Lumpur (via Delhi) Early morning transfer to airport for our flight IXL-DEL (0935-1055) with a 2 hours layover in Delhi, baggage checked through. we continue our journey home DEL-KUL (1255-2055) via AirIndia AI384 with all the sweet memories and adventures of Ladakh!
